curious syslog line

Mar 23 15:44:01 mustard modprobe: can't locate module char-major-6

this line keeps showing up in my syslog file, has been since somtime
moving from Debian hamm-->slink and kernel 2.0.36-->2.2.3.

does anyone know what this might be?
