I've had absolutely no luck with sounds cards and Linux. I'm in a position to where sound isn't really important on the machines I use, but I want to hear what a penguin sounds like.
I used to have an Awe64 but didn't hit on the trick of patching the drivers into the source and configuring it properly. I then ran across one of those SB16 Vibra cards, but I guess you have to first configure its ISA PnP in Windows/DOS before one could use it. Well, I don't have Windows/DOS and it wasn't worth the hassle to go put it into a friend's machine and configure it. What I'd love to have is some advice on a no-hassle sound card. The card doesn't have to put out great sound -- most any noise will do. By far the highest priority is for the card to mesh seamlessly with Linux.
