I'm helping a friend setting up his GNU/Debian machine in Germany.
Sofar we have managed to configure the Card (Fritz AVM1) install it
using modprobe and checking syslog - and everything seems to be alright.
modprobe hisax type=5 protocol=2 io=0x300 irq=5 id=Fritz
Then we configured ppp - using pppconfig - and as device specified /dev/ttyI0 (thats a zero)
We created the device using /etc/MAKEDEV isdn-tty.
The output of plog is as follows
