I'm using Communicator 4.5, installed via the Debian installer, and I have it crash maybe once a month or so. I've also used most of the 4.0x versions, with the same level of reliability. I don't have an XNLSPATH variable set at all. In /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/C I have a single file, XLC_LOCALE. dpkg -S shows that this file was installed by xbase. I am running hamm, and the xbase version is 3.3.2.3-2. Maybe there is a problem with the slink xbase; I have no experience with slink. The ldd output that you posted was identical to what I get on my system. I'm at a loss, and I don't know what to suggest for you at this point.
