Well, I bet you have xfstt package from hamm. It was old and broken. Get xfstt from slink - it should work fine. The actual xfstt executable is indeeed located in /usr/X11R6/bin. In /etc/init.d thereis a script that is used to start and stop the daemon.
Another thing: the slink version of xfstt keeps fonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype Good luck. Sergey.
