Is there a concise synopsis > anywhere in the Linux Documentation Project that I can reference? Yes there is - in fact b/c of your email last night i compiled a 2.4.20 kernel and followed the tldp howto: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO.html I use rp-pppoe for my DSL connection so I also included the options found in it: tar tzvf rp-pppoe-3.5.tgz *doc*KERNEL* rp-pppoe-3.5/doc/KERNEL-MODE-PPPOE It works o.k. for me.
