I am haing identical probs. Have tried various kernel options, including the support for booting on off-board cards; ide=reverse; various bios configs such as dis/en-abling pnp etc... No luck. I've followed mini-howto on ultra66 - nothing seems to work. I also have winblows installed on a separate partition and it seems to boot find off of ultra66.
My setup: latest bios on abit be-6 secondary ide port has two cdroms attached to it nothing on on-board hpt controller and nothing on primary ide have three HDDs #1 on promise's ide1 and HDD #2,3 are on promise's ide2 the first HDD, first partition contains winblows, and third partition contains debian. I am not sure whether it is this setup that fails me miserably or the kernel or something else?! Any help/leads/painful memories - please, share!
