Sounds like you have IP firewall enabled in kernel. Something seems to be broken in the way this sets up. Despite startup scripts telling it to allow certain connections, it seems to instead deny EVERYTHING. Routes specifically added by the scripts were still not allowed. On my box, I could not even ping localhost.
