>Hello, > >I have a similar problem, only I can't seem to get Icewm to work. Keep in mind that GNOME panel (etc.) will only work with certain window managers and Icewm is one of them. I am trying to get GNOME working with Icewm and when I run X it exits and I get the same message as you. How did you know what software to install to get Icewm working? The only .deb file I found was on the debian ftp site and it must not be enough. I think something is messed up with gdk on my system too because I get a message with GDK in it too. You compiled GNOME, didn't you? How did you know what you needed to do this. I am having difficulty finding a lot of information about this. Any help would be much appreciated! Well, Icewm was automatically selected on the installation process, I didn't even ask for it to be installed, but later on I really liked it, more than fvwm95 or afterstep stuff. Yes, I did compile GNOME, but it came out in a CDROM included with a magazine here in Spain, so I didn't have to know which packages, I just unpacked all the gnome-related packages included in the cdrom. So I can't help you in such matter, but if you want, I can send you all these files (only to you, not to the list). But I warn you that compilation arose some problems (small ones, but that you have to fix), specially if you work like me, with GNOME 0.20 and GTK 1.0 (there is a function on GTK 0.99 that is not present anymore in 1.0, so you have to change it to the new one or at least this is what I understood). And now I realize that there was some message about GDK incompatibility while running GNOME apps, as you say. Maybe is it because of incompatibility between libraries? The only difference I can see on my system from what you say is that I have xdm automatically started when I boot up (start-xdm line in /etc/X11/config). well, you know my email address, so if you want the packages, tell me, and tomorrow I will send them to you, and if you find the problem, please tell me.
