Hi,

I have restricted news access here at work (only a few groups, and no
write access).

I used to be able to telnet to linuxware.com (_used_ to be
205.230.171.50) and log on there to use news and stuff (I'm pretty sure
they used debian...), but now I can't even get there.

If I do telnet linuxware.com, I get a 'unable to obtain IP adress'.

If I do a ns lookup for linuxware.com, I get nothing back.

I do a ns lookup for 205.230.171.50 and get back:

Name: pool030.NORTHEAST.NET
Address: 205.230.171.50

I do a ns lookup for pool030.NORTHEAST.NET and get back:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: pool030.NORTHEAST.NET
Address: 205.230.171.225

???

I guess it no longer exists? This is strange, as for a year and a half
there has been a link to their web page (www.linuxware.com) on the LDP
home page (sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/LDP or whatever it is), but I just get
hostname unknown by http or telnet.

Using the second numeric address or the pool030.northeast.net address
just gets connection refused via either telnet or http.

Using the 1st numeric address in either telnet or http I just get
timeouts.

Does anyone know what's going?

Alternatively, any telnettable services (*free*...?) anyone knows about
I can use?

Ta,

Martin
