Well, in order to work around the ftp crashing problem, my friend and I decided to set up NFS. We got it working fine, and transfered a few files, and then we got around to trying to optimize the rsize and wsize mount parameters. In doing this, I went into the NFS mounted directory and did "time dd if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=16k count=4096". This caused my friends computer to crash with this error:
Kernel panic: skput:over: 001a8e1c:494 In swapper task - not syncing This reinforces my theory about the hard drive being the problem. So, does anyone know how to get a UDMA hard drive to work properly?
