the permissions on /dev/dsp may not be right. try cat /usr/lib/exmh/drip.au > /dev/dsp (assuming you have exmh around) to see if you can write to it. It should be 0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 14, 3 Sep 18 19:11 /dev/dsp e rick --
