One advantage I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere is in compiling a
kernel for installation on another computer, such as using a fast
machine to compile the kernel for installation on a slower machine.
I've done  this by hand and dealing with modules is a big mess.  make-kpkg
handles it very nicely as the modules are included in the .deb file.
