k, here's what i got when i did that, it looks like maybe  you're right:

 750 pts/2    S      0:00 grep arts

To look for one of these sound daemons, do a "ps ax | grep arts" (for KDE) or "ps ax | grep esound"; if you see something (other than your ps command), that's probably the problem.
