A specially adapted version of Xavier LeRoy's implementation of kernel-level POSIX threads (pthreads) is already part of libc6. Some libc6 distributions may have a seperate package for libc6 pthreads. However, Debian 2.0 has pthreads already integrated into libc6. -Ossama
