When using the XF86Setup program the only questions it asks about the monitor are the horizontal and vertical sync rates. The ones I gave were : hz : 30-69 and v : 50-120, which i got from the manual that came with the monitor (a gateway EV700). The program also asked for the preferred modes, but no matter what one I chose I ended up with the same extremely low resolution. > > > By the way, Did YOU actually enter 320x204 at some point? A few lines after this it told me that the mode 320x204 was being used automatically. So I never actually entered 320x204 anywhere, but no matter what mode I do choose, this is the one used. What a f*?king pain. Anyone out there got any more ideas? (I think a new video card would solve it all!)
