Hi, I want to set up redundant network cards in my debian system and I
have no idea how to start. I've read the linux-HA How-To and that got me
nowhere.

here is my situation.

I'm at a collage (Case Western Reserve University) that has an ATM
network. ATM is nice except that it is not entirely stable (in linux or
anywhere). We do also have ethernet here.

here is what I want to do.

I want the ATM card to be the primary card and if the ATM interface fails
(the card or the ATM network) I want the ethernet card to take over the
ATM card's ip address.

>From reading the linux-HA-How-To it seems this is entirely possible. I
just don't know where ot start. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

P.S. It would be very nice if I could set it up so that if both interfaces
are working than when someone tries to connect it finds witch interface is
faster and uses that one (if someone is using ethernet it's faster to go
directly to the eternet card than to go to the PowerHub move to the
emulated lan and then to the ATM card). This would be nice but not
neseccary.
