I guess it isn´t a PnP card. Soooo...

What gives cat /dev/sndstat ?

As root try "insmod sound trace_init=1", post output.  Does cat <some
file>.au > /dev/audio work?  What about playing wav´s (bplay)? Is
there something of interest in /var/log/* ?
