I felt a bit foolish when I read this so I checked to see what version I had: Bash$ dpkg --list latex2html Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-===============-==============-============================================ ii latex2html 98.1p1-5 LaTeX to HTML translator. I then looked in the directory, /usr/lib/texmf/latex/latex2html Bash$ ll total 22 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Aug 1 00:28 foilhtml.cfg -> /etc/foilhtml.cfg -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 11310 Jun 5 04:57 foilhtml.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1481 Feb 25 08:03 hthtml.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4797 Feb 25 08:03 ldump.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2337 Feb 25 08:03 verbatimfiles.sty and I then re-installed latex2html_98.1p1-5.deb and looked again: Bash$ ll total 75 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Aug 10 22:11 foilhtml.cfg -> /etc/foilhtml.cfg -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 11310 Jun 5 04:57 foilhtml.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2474 Feb 25 08:03 frames.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 815 Feb 25 08:03 heqn.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1481 Feb 25 08:03 hthtml.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 31749 Mar 6 07:49 html.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 984 Feb 25 08:03 htmllist.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 807 Feb 25 08:03 justify.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4797 Feb 25 08:03 ldump.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12675 Feb 25 08:03 url.sty -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2337 Feb 25 08:03 verbatimfiles.sty and there they were !! > > The files are put directly where LaTeX would look for them; > and hence are better integrated with the system. As far as I could tell the upgraded from 1.3.1 to Debian 2.0 went smoothly though I must admit I did appear to be a bit pushed for diskspace as the installation was going along, and had to hastily clear some rubbish off the disk while the upgrade was occuring... Could this be a reason for my missing files ? Debian does not appear to warn about disk space necessary when installing packages anymore ( as it used to) at least as far as I could tell... Am I wrong ? thanks Cormac -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cormac McGuinness e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] =============================================================================== Experimental Physics Department, Tel: + 353 1 706 2205 University College Dublin, Fax: + 353 1 283 7275 Belfield, Dublin 4, Ireland.
