X should be suid root and look like:

$ ls -l /usr/bin/X11/X
-rwsr-xr-x   1 root     root         4880 Jun 23 23:46 /usr/bin/X11/X
   ^ important

Something must have messed up your setup, maybe you could try to set X back
with a

chmod -v 4755 /usr/bin/X11/X

as root.
