This newbie should use a stable kernel instead. :-)

If you must use development kernels, then you must be prepared to debug
problems for yourself and report the results to the kernel developers.

2.5 has changed the module system. I believe you need the
module-init-tools package installed (from unstable). That doesn't change
the above, though.

I don't believe it's possible to run 2.5 kernels on woody right now
unless you know what you're doing well enough to upgrade bits of
userspace for yourself.
