I downloaded hamm stuff from the UK mirror last weekend. I guess that
was pretty recent.

No, no output from less /proc/kmsg, but all the messages are
provided by dmesg.

Somthing I noticed is that I only seem to get messages in syslog after
entering runlevel 2, following a message like

   Jun 20 19:23:54 Bert syslogd 1.3-3#26: restart.

Everything before this only appears on the console, before a line like
"INIT Entering runlevel 2".

I checked /etc/rc?.d for symlinks to /etc/init.d/sysklog and it only
gets started at runlevel 2, but lots of things seem to happen at boot
time
befoe this.

Shiraz.
