I moved a hardisk from my computer at home to another one to try and
see how the system runs on a stronger coputer.
My home machine is a 486 with a trident 8900d video board
The first computer i tried it on was a pentium using a cirus
logicvideo board. The system went up fine untill saying : loading xdm.
Then the screen started to flicker and the monitor started going in
and out of sleep mode. I tried to switch video boards o a trident
9000b be but the problem remained, and when i got home i had to
reinstall the kernel and drivers for it to work.
I then tried it on another computer apentium also running with a cirus
logic video board, Once it got to the point where it said Loading xdm,
i got tht same responce, ie. the screen disapeared and stared
flickering (the monitor didn't switch in and out of sleeping mode but
i don't think this one has the option).
Each time this happens the system also got locked up and it wouldn't
accept even "blind" commands (couldn't see what i was doing).
I tried to log in from the custom boot disk to fix the problem but the
system still tried to go into xdm and locked up.
I also tried to reinstall kernel and images but it didn't solve the
problem.
I don't know if there is a way to stop xdm from starting before it
starts without going into the system (ie. boot prompt or hot keys).
Thenx
