I think method 1) is preferrable, but you can find (by searching the mailing list archives for "mystique" from February) a description of how to do 2) as well. If you decide to do 1), be certain to look at http://www.gate.net/~storm/FAQ/libc5-libc6-Mini-HOWTO.html first.
