I've never tried using xscreensaver before, and so I am not sure if this is an xscreensaver configuration problem, or an xbase configuration problem:
I recently tried installing xscreensaver, but when I try to start it I get an error message that xscreensaver does not have permission to open the display (i.e., "xscreensaver cannot open display 0:0").
