Have a look at /etc/conf.modules Look for the line #alias eth0 <enter your driver here> If there's nothing like "alias eth0 ne" (for the NE-2000 compatibles) Insert it anywhere in conf.modules. Once you have done that a sh> ifconfig eth0 should work.
