Yes, it should be the same effect. At home my Linux partition is at secondary drive, and I didn't want to mess my MBR and partition tables and whatever they are, so I decided to put LILO on a floppy disk and when I want to start Linux , I simply reset the computer with the floppy inserted and it is (almost) as fast as having LILO at the hard disk.
