Hello Lothar! Maybe your problem 1. comes from the SB. I hat the same problem. And ther was no way to boot any kernel I had on floppy or harddisk.
As I have DOS on the same machine, I configured the soundcard under DOS to the parameters of th old card, so that it didn't conflict with the other cards anymore. Then I installed isapnp.
