Hi All, I do not have a Debian system, but would like to start installing .deb packages. I have converted he tools (dpkg, deselect etc.) using alien, and installed them. I think I need some kind of database in /var/lib/dpkg to keep track of packages, and receive an error "unable to create update files list for package foo: No such file or directory" when using "dpkg -i foo". Same kind of error trying dselect.
