As recommended by Eric S. Raymond in his "Ultimate Linux Box"
articles, I would recommend an external U.S. Robotics V.Everything
external.  When I have to use a modem (when the DSL goes down, or
dialing up to my friendly neighborhood BBS), this is my warrior.  It
works like a champ.

If you can't find this modem anywhere, I suggest an external modem.
Most internal modems today are WinModems, plus, they make debugging of
serial problems a pain, and the only way to perform a hard reset of
them is to restart the computer.  Not exactly the best for uptime.
