Q: configuration of the X server.

        Hi, 

a friend of mine is using debian-1.3.1. He has  succeded in 
installing everything, but his X-server is badly configured:
        + the 3buttons mouse is behaving like a 2buttons;
        + he can't succeed in running xdm;
        + a few colors can be displayed;
        + there is no way to change the resolution using 
          Ctrl-Alt-NumPad{+,-}

What to do ?
