I have an interesting problem that has recently come up and I'm
wondering if others have had a similar experience.
I have a D-Link DWL-650 Wireless NIC. I used to have a D-Link
DL-713P Wireless router.
Between the two, things worked very well. But the range was a
little short.
At one point I picked up a NetGear wireless router and between the
DWL-650 and the router I was able to get about 9600 baud of
through put. NetGear refused to provide any assistance as there
was throughput and so it's been returned.
Now I am looking at an Orinoco WAP. Wireless connectivity (signal
strength and reported speed) is excellent, better than the D-Link.
But there's no sustainable throughput. If I try to download
anything like a medium sized web page, or open email and ssh, the
card drops to 2MB/s and then quits altogether.
I get flooded with errors in my syslog that look like this:
Dec 7 15:49:19 thorin kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit
timed out
Dec 7 15:49:19 thorin kernel: eth1: Tx timeout! Resetting card.

---------------------------------
Is this a problem of brand mixing on 802.11b products or is there
something wrong with the DWL-650 card? I am unable to return to
the D-Link router for testing as I no longer have it with me.
