Hi... I'm trying to set up anonymous ftp access (for no particular reason, truth be told - I just want to know how to do it) on one of my Debian boxes and I can't quite get it to work. I followed exactly the instructions in the ftpd man page, down to the file permissions, etc.
What I get is - I can ftp to the box from itself or over the network and log in as anonymous. Then I can put files to the directory and they get transferred all right, and I can get files if I know their names... but, of course, as you may have guessed by now, I can't list the contents of the directories. It says that the connection has been opened successfully, but nothing comes out the other end. The directories have read and execute access for everyone, so that's not the problem... and I also did like the man page says and copied ls to /home/ftp/bin. I added user "ftp" with adduser --system (which, by the way, is broken in v3.5). I'm running a mostly hamm system, with netbase 3.02-1 and netstd 3.01-1. There's probably a simple answer to this but I'm not seeing it... Anybody out there care to shed some light on the problem?
