Anthony,
        Thanx :) i've been going the "send in back-ground" thing so long
now i had forgotten to fix this.  Your suggestion worked here great. Just
have to add "localhost".

smtp-server=localhost

(I believe it's the second setting in /etc/pine.conf.fixed)
