Solved ! Uncommented auto in /etc/modules. Saw extra lp in conf.modules. Was reading "options lp lp io=0x378 irq=7" removed the extra lp. Rebooted and the printer shuddered. Was not doing that before. Then I noticed that the printer was being accessed every minute or so but nothing was printing. Went and cleared the spooler. But still could not print. Checked the messages file in logs and saw several refernces to lp0. But printcap had refernce to lp1.
Corrected and it's printing now. Now I can move on to samba to see if I can print from NT server to LINUX printer.
