You'll do best to make a symlink from /dev/cdrom to /dev/whatever.

Try just "mount" and see what it lists.

It sounds like your cdrom might not be on /dev/hda ... what is it attached
to?  The system ide controller?  A scsi controller?  A Soundblaster?
