The easiest thing to do is rather than play with the kdmrc file is to go into root and run the control centre. Then go to the user login manager there. Of course you then can't login as root and go to the user login manager (you can't work it as a normal user) :-( The other thing you can do, is allow the user to login as root but NOT have root in the potential list of logins on the display.
