You can find good drivers for the AWE 64 from: http://bahamut.mm.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~iwai/awedrv The current version is 0.4.something, and is working very well with my AWE Gold :). I don´t think so. Just check that the devices (/dev/dsp, etc.) have correct permissions.
