Give the following a go:
1. Copy his working kernel off his Slackware onto the rescue/install
disk (it's just a DOS disk).
2. There should be just enough space left on the rescue disk to copy
sbpcd.o out of the driver disk tar onto the rescue disk, then
insmod it.
3. Just do a normal floppy install and configure the sbpcd module from
there.
