I have a nearly similar problem with the booting process telling me it cannot read the /lib/modules/2.0.30 directory. But in my case it does not matter because I do not have loadable modules.

If I missed your point try doing make modules etc steps in compiling the kernel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ D.J.
