Hi!

I'm running Debian 1.2 with some 1.3 packages. One of these bo
packages is teTeX. I installed all the other tetex packages just fine
-- not counting the hours-long search for old TeX packages [sic].
tetex-extra gives me something unusual. Here's a transcript:

Script started on Wed Jul 23 00:26:46 1997
gaia# dpkg --install tetex-extra_0.4pl6-4.deb
(Reading database ...
dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `tetex-extra'
missing, assuming package has no files currently installed.
15426 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace tetex-extra 0.4pl6-4 (using tetex-extra_0.4pl6-4.deb) ...

checking for old tex packages ....................................

I see that you have one or more of the pre-1.3 TeX packages installed:

 texi2html

Because these packages had serious problems, they were replaced by teTeX.
Unfortunately, because of those problems (and because of a missing feature
in the packaging system), you have to deinstall those packages before you
can proceed to install teTeX.

This is how to do it:

a) In dselect [S]elect the tetex packages for installation. This will
mark all the old packages automaticaly for removal.

Then first [R]emove all deselected packages.

After this [I]nstall all selected packages.

or

b) From the commandline call:

   dpkg --purge --force-depends texi2html

Please press [RETURN]:

dpkg: error processing tetex-extra_0.4pl6-4.deb (--install):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
texhash: updating /usr/lib/texmf/../../../var/lib/texmf/ls-R ...
texhash: Done.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tetex-extra_0.4pl6-4.deb
gaia# dpkg --purge --force-depends texi2html
dpkg - warning: ignoring request to remove texi2html which isn't installed.
gaia# exit
exit

The warning "tetex-extra has no files installed" was caused by the
fact that I had previously tried this. After generating the
transcript, I retried after a deinstall of tetex-extra. No no-files
warning, but neither was there any other change in the behaviour.

Any ideas? Is this a bug? Have I done something wrong? If there's
anything you need to know about my installation, just ask.

My system is a home-built i386SX with 4/330MB, no X.
