Is there a lawyer willing to go after spammers pro-bono out there? The spam mailing list had to take down its IP filter list due to legal threats. I think the legal threats would be less of a problem with a by-subscription-only service (sort of like credit reporting) than it is for a public list (which is what they were doing).
I've been thinking about running an IP filtering service as a commercial or semi-commercial (fund-raising for Debian) project.
