At work I sit behind a firewall. The firewall lets me out for whatever I want, but for some reason, there is a conflict with the wu-ftpd distributed with Debian and my firewall. Wu-ftpd sits there for several minutes before it times out and actually connects...it seems like I can't connect at all to master.debian.org from behind the firewall, although maybe it just takes a few minutes more.
It occurs to me that maybe wu-ftpd is waiting for my name to be sent, because it knows my name when I go there and am not behind a firewall....who feeds this info to it if I don't have identd running? Is that my client? Is this not the problem? How can I get wu-ftpd to give me a quicker response? I'm convinced that this is a Debian/wu-ftpd problem... I can get into ftp.debian.org fine from my firewall, as well as ftp.redhat.com, and all other ftp sites I've ever tried...but the two Debian machines at home take several minutes to let me in, and master.debian.org won't let me in at all, or maybe I just haven't waited long enough for it to timeout.
