Looking at /usr/share/tasksel/debian-tasks.desc, it looks like selecting
the basic-desktop task ("X window system") does precisely select
x-window-system for installation. I'd bet the other stuff that gets
installed is because of cascaded "Suggests:" lines which apt-get ignores.
