I recomend using a VPN of some kind. you can try going the SMTP auth route, but VPN is probably a better bet. Chances are good if he has to change servers on each dialup the ISP is possibly blocking outgoing SMTP to block spammers. VPN has other advantages as well(like not needing IMAP/SSL). I also provide webmail(via squirrelmail) to company users as well.
