You can use M-x recover-session RET to recover all these files from their auto-save files. (Auto-save files are usually named something like #foo# and should not be confused with the backup files foo~ -- auto-save files are created automatically by Emacs when the buffer is modified and when Emacs has been idle for a while.) I do not think that it is a good idea to remove these files. Instead, try to end each Emacs with C-x C-c before shutting down X and see if any new .saves files appear. One day, you will be thankful for an auto-save file! This is similar to backups -- most of the time you don't need them at all but you still do them (you do make backups, don't you?) because you know when you need them you need them bad! Many regards, kai -- Life is hard and then you die.
