I see - it only tries to stop xdm if it is set up to start it at boot time. I'll change that in the next xbase, if I remember. As a matter of interest, what does this do: start-stop-daemon --stop --verbose --exec /usr/bin/X11/xdm Steve Early [EMAIL PROTECTED]
