Hi all, I aquired a secondhand Compaq M700 notebook, which features an ATi Rage Mach64 graphics chipset. I'm running Etch. I've got all the things in my XF86config-4 file that I need (I think) and I don't get any error messages (aside from some font and apm issues) in my XFree logs. But when I run glxgears I get a message saying:
xlib: extention "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". And the output doesn't appear to be hardware accelerated - I get 196 FPS. I'm not really that bothered about the hardware 3D (although it would be nice to be able to play Quake3) but it doesn't appear to do hardware overlay/scaling when I play movies either - CPU usage is very high and the screen updates are notably slow, even though MPlayer says it's using "xv" for video out. I have the following packages installed: ii xfree86-common 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X Window System (XFree86) infrastructure ii xlibmesa-dri 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Mesa 3D graphics library modules [XFree86] ii xlibmesa-gl 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Mesa 3D graphics library [XFree86] ii xlibmesa-glu 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Mesa OpenGL utility library [XFree86] ii xserver-xfree8 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 the XFree86 X server Is anybody else running this notebook? How did you configure X? Do I need to load the gatos drivers (and if so, how?) theluggage:/home/hansdp# lspci -v -s 01:00.0 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x (rev 64) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Compaq Computer Corporation Armada M700 Flags: bus master, stepping, medium devsel, latency 66, IRQ 11 Memory at 40000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] I/O ports at 2000 [size=256] Memory at 41000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Capabilities: [50] AGP version 1.0 Capabilities: [5c] Power Management version 1 >From XF86Config-4: Section "Module" Load "GLcore" Load "bitmap" Load "dbe" Load "ddc" Load "dri" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "int10" Load "record" Load "speedo" Load "type1" Load "vbe" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" BoardName "Rage Mobility Pro" VendorName "ATi" Driver "ati" Chipset "mach64" VideoRam 8192 EndSection Thanks -- Kind Regards Hans du Plooy SagacIT (Pty) Ltd hansdp at sagacit dot com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
