Did you install the codecs in their directory BEFORE or AFTER you compiled
Mplayer? It's necessary to install them before. If you didn't do that, you'll
have to recompile.

I installed mplayer, codecs from Christian Marillat's website. Following
your suggestion, I removed w32codecs, mplayer-586 etc., and then
installed them in the following order (one after another) - w32codecs,
mplayer-586, mplayer-fonts. It did not solve the problem.
