Dear all, I have a Tyan Thunder K8W board (http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8w_spec.html) with a single opteron 246 as I remembered starting a dual processor board with one Pentium pro in dim and distant days being a good way to allow room for later expansion of power. Board has an nvidia GeoForce FX 5200 graphics card and 2Gb of RAM and (for now) Samsung TM1000-24 SP1614N hard disc on the primary ATA channel (drives attached to the internal SATA controller disconnected for now: one step at a time!)
The problem is that sarge i386 r0a net-installer image boots up to the boot prompt but then, whether I use the default or the 2.6 kernel, hangs after: "Uncompressing Linux ..., Ok, booting the kernel." nothing happens at all, the CD continues spinning though. I think this could be the graphics card but I doubt it, or it could be having one processor in a dual processor board, or could it be the 2Gb of RAM? Anyway, suggestions much appreciated.
